A gang is a group of individuals who hang out together and may commit crime together
Gangs may range from a loose knit group of individuals who hang around
together and might commit crime together. They might have a leader who most probally
started up the gang. The leader will make most of the choices like the gang name
and gang colours. Some gangs might range from 20 to 30 people to around 500 or more.

I spoke to a police officer and he said
the police cannot do anything about gangs unless they have been involved in criminal activty
or someone from the gang has broken the law. So it is very
hard for the police to keep the streets safe but not raid a gang that they think has been acting suspicious
but in the end they find everyone clean with no problems they are in the wrong.

Why do people join gangs?

Some people get drawn into gangs by parties,girls and drugs. Some people are looking for respectand power.Some find feeling of caring and attention in a gang which they might not getat home.Some people might get attracted from the money side of things and to buy nice clothes etc...Some join for self-protection because of other gang members picking on them. Some people grow up in a
neighbourhoodm when it is almost a tradition to join a gang.

What are some of the main gangs in the world?

The Mafia is one of the biggest gangs in the world. It was created in 19th century and is Italian based.
The Aryan brother hood gang which is a prison gang and is responsible for about 20% of all prison deaths.
The Crips of Los Angeles is one of the biggest gangs in America and is responsible for 50% of all murders and drug trades in Los Angeles.
The Triads are one of the main gangs in Asia and are responsible for most of the drug trades and murders in Asia.
